Puyallup teen serves as page in state House of Representatives

From Feb. 25 to March 1, Puyallup home-school student Grace Pollock served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. She was sponsored by 25th District Rep. Chris Gildon, R-Puyallup.

Grace, 14, takes voice and piano lessons, and enjoys reading.

As a page, Grace was responsible for delivering messages and documents to state lawmakers in their offices, committee meetings and the House chamber. She also attended Legislative Page School during the day, where she learned more about the legislative process.

“Although I’ve only served as a representative for a couple of months, I’ve quickly learned how essential pages are to the daily operations of the Legislature,” said Gildon. “It was wonderful having a local student with us, and I wish Grace all of the best. I firmly believe she has a bright future ahead of her.”

Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the House Page Program. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program. For more information about the House Page Program, click here.

The 2019 legislative session began Jan. 14 and is scheduled to last 105 consecutive days.
